Your Worldview is Showing

Every person and everything they create—from songs and movies to businesses and universities—operate from a specific worldview.

By worldview, I simply mean how one sees the world.

When I was a boy, I was oblivious to this truth. I viewed all entertainment as neutral rather than as a canvas filled with a creator’s specific beliefs about life, love, and meaning. So I gave everything a free pass to my mind and heart.

I soon realized that no creator or creation is neutral. It’s simply not possible. You may not know the person who created the show you’re watching but their worldview is showing in everything they make. It always does.

God has a particular worldview as well. As the Creator of the world, his view of the world is the only one that accurately reflects reality. But that view is mostly opposed today. The next time you’re singing a pop song or watching the show everyone’s raving about, ask yourself: What worldview is embedded within it…and am I better or worse off after spending time with it?

Summing it all up, friends, I’d say you’ll do best by filling your minds and meditating on things true, noble, reputable, authentic, compelling, gracious—the best, not the worst; the beautiful, not the ugly; things to praise, not things to curse. (Philippians 4:8 NLT)
