What’s Your Jam?

You have a way of seeing the world unlike anyone else. It reflects the unique gifting, interests, and creativity that God knit into you before you were born.

Your creativity is at its best when your God-given originality differentiates it from everything else.

Years ago, an experiment was conducted in a grocery store in Menlo Park, California. It involved an in-store display which rotated between six and 24 kinds of jam. The results were striking. Customers with fewer options were ten times more likely to purchase a jam. But those with too many choices were overwhelmed and left with none. Too many options, it turns out, is too much.

The more your creations look like what’s out there, the more your potential customers don’t see it…or will grow numb from too many choices of similar sameness. Predictable art happens when you follow someone else's—or even your own—formula for creativity.

There are already too many options for grape jelly. Rather than offering more of the same (even if that's what your audience expects), find your own jam and share that with the waiting world.
