Tone-Deaf to the Times
How is your creativity relevant to this particular moment in time?
Too many Christian speakers, writers, and artists seem utterly tone-deaf to the times. They continue to churn out works of positivity more focused on our feelings than God’s reality. The goal seems to be popularity rather than perspective. Sugar-coated gummies rather than salt and light. The same is true for many churches, where the pastor plays it safe on Sunday morning rather than inviting us into the story God is telling…right now.
This is a big deal to Jesus. And should be to us.
Then Jesus turned to the crowd and said, “When you see clouds beginning to form in the west, you say, ‘Here comes a shower.’ And you are right. When the south wind blows, you say, ‘Today will be a scorcher.’ And it is. You fools! You know how to interpret the weather signs of the earth and sky, but you don’t know how to interpret the present times.” (Luke 12:54-56 NLT)
Jesus says it’s foolish to predict tomorrow’s weather but not be able to interpret the present times. Yet far too many Christian schools, churches, ministries, and industries appear clueless to the larger story that’s been playing out since Eden. So culture reshapes them rather than the other way around.
Which brings me back to my first question. How is your creativity relevant to this particular moment in time?
