There Are Always Possibilities
I admit it. I’m a big fan of the classic Star Trek television series and movie franchise. The original ones with William Shatner, Leonard Nimoy, and DeForest Kelly as Captain Kirk, Spock, and Bones.
Spock spoke my favorite line when, with a raised eyebrow, he’d say, “There are always possibilities.”
It’s a hopeful way to see life. But with all due respect to Spock and the writers of Star Trek, they didn’t originate the thought.
Jesus said it first and better. “With man this is impossible, but with God all things are possible.” (Matthew 19:26).
That’s even more hopeful. Because our hope doesn’t rest in ourselves…nor in the imagined technological advancements of the future. Because, even in space, we are still only human. And human knowledge is never enough. Certain limits can’t be overcome. Some dreams are, in fact, impossible.
But with God, there aren’t just possibilities. All things are possible. So take your impossibilities to him…and stay expectant.
