The Ultimate Upgrade

When Jesus encounters two brothers on the shore, he makes them an incredible offer. If these fishermen will follow him, he will make them more true to who they were always meant to be. 

One day as Jesus was walking along the shore of the Sea of Galilee, he saw two brothers—Simon, also called Peter, and Andrew—throwing a net into the water, for they fished for a living. Jesus called out to them, “Come, follow me, and I will show you how to fish for people!” And they left their nets at once and followed him.  (Matthew 4:18-20 NKJV) 

The brothers already were fishermen. That was their livelihood. But when they chose to follow Jesus, he spoke into their gifting and upgraded it. He expanded what they did, how they did it, and who it was for. 

• Their core talent was reimagined yet remained true to their skills. They didn’t become dentists.

• Their calling was upgraded. They went from catching fish to fishing for people.

• Their platform was expanded. They didn’t limit their audience to fishermen. Or even just men. 

As you follow Jesus, he upgrades what you do, how you do it, and who it’s for. It’s the ultimate upgrade. Once you understand that, you’ll leave your nets at once too…just like Peter and Andrew.
