The Creator of Reality

God is the first and most real being ever. He is the Creator of reality. But he isn’t just that. He’s the ongoing source of all reality. Anything that wants to be real must align with him, measure itself by him, and remain dependent on him.

As the Creator of reality, he alone gets to define what is real. And since he is the most real being in all of creation, he rightly begins with himself. He alone has no maker or creator. He is Trinity. Three yet one. Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. As he reveals to Moses in Exodus 3:14, he is the great I AM who always was, always is, and forever will be. He is beyond the bounds of time, because he existed before there was time.

Speaking of time, now it’s time for our first of the Five Tenets of Reality. I’ll offer one a day to help redirect us back to what’s most real.

Tenet 1: God Is the Creator of Reality

Genesis is the first book of the Bible. In the first sentence of the first chapter, we’re told that in the beginning, God created the heavens and the earth. In other words, he is the Creator who spoke our reality into existence. He didn’t consult us on our opinion of what creation should be. Or even if we wanted to be created. We may be tempted to think he didn’t involve us because we weren’t yet around. But the fact is there’s nothing we could have offered or improved.

We live in a world that actively rebels against not only God, but reality as he created it. That’s why it’s important to start with this tenet. It reminds us that reality didn’t exist until God chose to create it. And it operates according to his design and pleasure. He alone is the Creator of reality.
