Stop Playing It By Ear

When we play it by ear, we’re winging it. We don’t go in with a plan but make it up as we go. It’s reactive.

There’s a better way to play it. Rather than play it by ear, try playing it by heart.

Is this distinction really a big deal? Scripture says nothing matters more: Above all else, guard your heart, for everything you do flows from it. (Proverbs 4:23 NIV)

This allows us to be proactive from a place of love. Decisions aren’t random but relational. Even in hard choices, we aren’t making it up as we go. By leading with love, we’re following in the footsteps of Jesus.

Love never gives up, never loses faith, is always hopeful, and endures through every circumstance. (1 Corinthians 13:7 NLT)
