Rushing Wind, Consuming Fire

Do you tend to view the Holy Spirit as creative?

In Genesis 1:2, God’s Spirit is described as brooding, or spreading its wings like a bird, over the murky nothingness. This is meant to be a life-giving image, not a delicate one. It describes a bold act, the transforming of chaos and emptiness into life and order.

In what Scripture calls “the last days” (which feel a lot like these days), God says:

I will pour out my Spirit on all people.
Your sons and daughters will prophesy,
your young men will see visions,
your old men will dream dreams.
(Acts 2:17 NIV)

As the craziness rises, I believe the Spirit will communicate to us in ways that break through the confusion and tear down walls. These dreams, visions, and prophesies will reveal what is to come and draw people back to the Creator.

The Spirit actively changes the atmosphere in this world and in our hearts for good. No matter how chaos tries to condemn, confine, or control us, the Spirit counters with the rushing wind and consuming fire of freedom.

Now the Lord is the Spirit, and where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is freedom. (2 Corinthians 3:17 NIV)

If you could use some wind in your creative sails, ask the Holy Spirit to infuse the empty, void places in you with fresh dreams, visions, and purpose.
