Outer Limits

What limits do you place on your creativity?

You may be certain there’s too little money to fund your dream. Or not enough time to start—or finish—the project at hand. Maybe you doubt anyone would care. Perhaps you’re stuck in neutral with no traction for moving forward.

We long for our art to take us to new and uncharted places. But the blank canvas looks back at us and says, "No, you must go there first."

The outer limits we place on our art actually reflect the inner limits we place on ourselves. Deep down, we sense we aren’t enough or don’t have enough to see this project through. But it doesn’t stop there. The lack within us reveals an even deeper agreement we’ve made. That God will only come through for us and our creativity in limited ways. We can’t fathom that God actually wants to co-create with us. We question whether he will be present in active, intimate ways for our hearts and dreams.

So we downgrade hopes for God, for ourselves, and for our art, setting camp in the status-quo of scarcity while God offers a land of abundance. It’s a cycle of limitations.

Thankfully, when reversed, it becomes a cycle of abundance. When we believe God wants to create with us, we experience the active, intimate process of co-creation. We know it isn’t all up to us. Success is simply pursuing what we love with God. Our art is no longer the source of our validation and is free from past limitations.

Imagine how much higher your dreams will fly once you release your outer and inner limits to the limitless Creator.
