Just a Glimpse

It’s normal to lose hope at times. In those moments, a glimpse is all it takes to remind us of what awaits.

I experienced the power of such a glimpse recently. My favorite place is the ocean. But the closest I had been to the beach the past six years was an ocean painting in my office. So when my family and I headed to Florida this past summer, I was filled with anticipation. We arrived just before sunset and headed to a restaurant near the shore. We put our name on the waitlist, grabbed a buzzer, and headed to the beach.

As I crossed the street and the ocean came into view, I was speechless. I’d waited so many years for this exact moment. Only to have it abruptly interrupted by the flashing, pulsating buzzer in my hand. Our table was ready. Way early.

I reluctantly turned from the ocean, knowing it would be the next day before I could fully experience the beach. I was momentarily disheartened. After all those years, all I got was a glimpse. Yet that was all it took to awaken my desire. I was suddenly good, knowing what awaited me.

If you are losing hope about your future, take a moment right now to ask God for a glimpse. Not of the beach. But of his plans for you.

For I know the plans I have for you,” says the Lord. “They are plans for good and not for disaster, to give you a future and a hope.” (Jeremiah 29:11 NLT)

All it takes is a glimpse.
