Is Chaos Random or Personal?
Before we go further, let’s define what we mean by chaos.
Dictionary.com describes it this way: A state of utter confusion or disorder.
That’s a start. We all can relate to the sensation of being confused and disoriented at times. But the definition vastly understates the impact of chaos. Back in my high school math class, I spent quite a bit of time in “a state of utter confusion.” But I wasn’t experiencing chaos. I feel a sense of disorder most Monday mornings. But that’s not chaos either. Chaos is more severe and costly.
Let me propose a new definition for the purposes of our journey: Chaos is a destructive, fear-based force that prevents you from fully living. The ways it comes against you—large and small—are often intensely personal strikes meant to leave you empty.
That feels a little more like what’s coming against me. What about you?
If the chaos coming against us isn’t mostly random, then we need to realize more is going on than we’ve realized…and respond accordingly.
