Imagine That!

Imagination is one of the greatest gifts God infused within us.

Imagination gives us eyes to see what hasn’t been yet. And it is through our imagination that we can then usher in the new and not yet.

But imagination can be used for good or for evil. And we see early examples of imagination being used for evil at the very start of the Story. In the garden of Eden, the serpent enticed Adam and Eve by having them imagine the possibility that God was holding out. That story led to a tragic choice and a fallen world. And long before that, the enemy himself imagined himself over God and ultimately enticed a third of the angels to imagine the same. Which led to the rebellion in heaven.

Today, much that passes for imagination is actually indoctrination. Creativity, when used as a tool to hammer another’s belief into your brain, becomes something less and makes us something less. Because it attempts to replace the freedom of thought with the control of one view.

We must sanctify our imagination if we want to use it for good.

It’s essential the unheard notes and unseen realities we pursue align with how God made life. That doesn’t mean our creativity should be safe or sanitized. Not at all.

In your art, let there be a great battle between good and evil. Make it messy. Allow it be real and raw. Or fantastical. But in whatever you create, let good and hope ultimately prevail. Not because that is nice and sweet, but because that is true. It’s how God created the Story we all find ourselves in.

Pursuing your art in this way reflects a God-view of reality, life, love, sacrifice, and restoration. As a result, your creativity will shimmer with originality, life, and trueness.
