Choose Your Weapon

Imagine your creativity as a sword created with God’s light. This weapon is our presence and our art fused together with God. When wielded properly, it pierces the darkness. It overcomes fear with love. It causes chaos to crumble.

No two light swords are the same. Each has a unique color and shape, custom-fitted to the individual. Other swords feel awkward in our hands or hold no interest for us because those aren’t the gifts we’ve been given authority to wield.

Art is a weapon of warfare against chaos. Certainly not the only weapon at our disposal. But one that has continually changed the world for good through creativity in story, song, architecture, medicine, teaching, culinary, dance, technology, farming, and science.

I pray that your hearts will be flooded with light so that you can see something of the future he has called you to share. (Ephesians 1:18, NLT)

It’s never smart combat to try and defeat chaos with more chaos. We can’t fight darkness with darkness. We fight darkness with light.

A simple yet powerful request when starting a new project or facing the unknown is, “Let there be light. Your light, God, on this decision, this issue, this problem, this opportunity.”

Yes. In all we create, let there be light.
