The Risk of Imagination

God didn’t have to infuse us with an imagination.

He’d already seen the devastation it caused when Adam and Eve used their imagination to imagine life without him.

If life were simply about obedience, imagination would be unnecessary. But God prefers intimacy to information.

So he took the risk of entrusting us with the immense power of an imagination. He knew many would abuse his gift. When we leave God out of our imagination, things go south really fast.

But he also knew some would use their imagination to create stories, songs, and places that remind us of Eden, stir wonder about eternity, and help us enter into greater awe and worship of God.

When we reclaim our imagination for good, it no longer is used as an escape from reality…but as an invitation into God’s deeper reality.

Imagine that.
