The Power of Love

In a contest between love and fear, I sometimes doubt love is strong enough to win. I mean, love is great. But fear plays dirty. It’s a street brawler. And love is so . . . kind. I worry that in direct combat, love may get its tail kicked. Then what?

Thankfully, Scripture reminds me my concern is unfounded. Nothing is more powerful than love.

For I am convinced that nothing can ever separate us from his love. Death can’t, and life can’t. The angels won’t, and all the powers of hell itself cannot keep God’s love away. Our fears for today, our worries about tomorrow, or where we are—high above the sky, or in the deepest ocean—nothing will ever be able to separate us from the love of God demonstrated by our Lord Jesus Christ when he died for us. (Romans 8:38–39 TLB)

All of creation must operate within those parameters. There are no exceptions. Not for death, life, politicians, movements, the outcast or the elite. Not for social media celebrities or those operating in the shadows. There are no loopholes for angels, demons, or the powers of hell. Nor for yesterday’s mistakes, today’s fears, or tomorrow’s worries. Even the place you live, no matter how shaken it has become, has to give way to God.

God spoke the first word. God gets the last word.

Remember: God is eternal. Chaos is not. When chaos and the Creator come face-to-face, chaos blinks every time. In this world we will have trouble. But Jesus has overcome the world. Chaos may be inevitable, but God is invincible.

So before we start up again, leave whatever is troubling you behind. No matter how long you’ve carried that burden, it has no power to separate you from the mighty love of God.

There’s no contest. God wins every time. Through the power of love.
