The Continual Creator
Most people, after achieving an unprecedented accomplishment, call it good. After all, there’s nowhere to go but down, so they stop while they’re ahead.
But not God. He is the continual Creator.
I mean, if you want to quit at the top of your game, the climax of the Genesis creation would be a good place to accept your award, take a bow, and retire as Creator.
Thankfully, that’s not how God operates. After creating galaxies, the sun and moon, and everything on earth, he took time to savor it. And then got back to creating.
How is he creating today? Here are a few examples:
Create in me a new, clean heart, O God, filled with clean thoughts and right desires. (Psalm 51:10 TLB)
Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, the new creation has come: The old has gone, the new is here! (2 Corinthians 5:17 NIV)
For see, I am creating new heavens and a new earth—so wonderful that no one will even think about the old ones anymore. (Isaiah 65:17 TLB)
Do you view God’s creativity as something that happened primarily in the past, or as actively bringing new ideas and plans and hearts to life now? Nothing about God is static. Even his name is an ongoing verb. The name Yahweh conveys simultaneous aspects of past, present, and future. It is built on the Hebrew verb “to be”—which connotes eternal, ongoing existence.
The Creator is continuously creating. If you’re curious what to pursue next, follow his lead. See what new work he’s focused on and then join him in that act of creation.
