Stop Reacting to Reactions

The best way to be proactive is to stop reacting to the reactions of others.

When you downgrade the worth of your art based on the reactions of others, you give them way too much power over your gifting. A rejection of your art could mean it wasn’t meant for that person. Or it may be a sign your vision requires more hard work before it’s ready for prime time. The first option requires grace for the other person. The second—grace for yourself.

When you ask others what you should create, you become an order taker rather than a visionary. No one can ask for what’s never been done. They just ask for slight variations of what already exists.

Creating the first of something is completely different—and far more risky. The world won’t know how to categorize it. So don’t misinterpret the initial confusion or reaction as a sign you did something wrong. You did something new and the world needs time to catch up. You’re forging a new path that didn’t exist until you created it.

God never worried what others would think about his creations. He didn’t do an advance survey on whether to create elephants or aardvarks. He created in trueness…and invites you to do the same.

Pursue your passions proactively with God. Then let the world react to it…rather than you reacting to the world.
