Pray This for a Fresh Start
Listen to this powerful request the psalmist makes to God:
God, make a fresh start in me, shape a Genesis week from the chaos of my life. (Psalm 51:10 MSG)
The psalmist’s pleas are our plea. God, give us a fresh start. Relief from the chaos. Hope for the future. A new beginning. Turn the disorder to order . . . within us.
Consider what a “Genesis week” might represent. The phrase doesn’t just signify a minor improvement to your situation. It compares the greatest act of creation we can imagine to what God can do for you. This week of Genesis includes the full 7-day cycle of God’s creation—from overcoming chaos to magnificent creating to restorative rest. That’s way different than unplugging to crash just to enter the daily grind again tomorrow.
Here’s a simple prayer to ask God for this fresh start in your life: “God, you can calm any storm. More than that, you can create beauty, order, and hope from chaos. I’m now asking you to recreate my circumstances, restore my dreams, and redeem my past. Father, I’m in awe of what you did when you created the oceans, mountains, forests, stars, sun, and sky. Infuse my life with that same creativity. Shape a Genesis week from the chaos in my life. In Jesus name, Amen.”
