My (Almost) Last Night on Earth

It happened at midnight on Halloween more than four decades ago. I was fifteen, attending a party at the home of a high school senior whose parents were away. The story goes downhill from there. It almost led to my last night on earth.

Some of you heard this tragic yet ultimately redemptive Halloween story last year. It struck a chord, leading to one of the highest response rates of all my readings. I offer it again as a form of holy defiance against this day of darkness.

I tell my story in this Wild at Heart podcast . Jesus didn’t just rescue me that night, he showed up forty years later for even more healing of my heart. I hope this serves as a powerful reminder that even when darkness surrounds us, even when we stumble into it, even when evil thinks it has won and we are done—God always prevails.

Especially today, stay expectant for how God goes before, with, and beyond you to light the dark around you.

The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness can never extinguish it. (John 1:5 NLT)
