God Will Lift You Up

In a culture of rights and offense, it’s easy to forget that God doesn’t value the self-made person. He values humility.

If you will humble yourselves under the mighty hand of God, in his good time he will lift you up. Let him have all your worries and cares, for he is always thinking about you and watching everything that concerns you. (1 Peter 5:6-7)

Notice the sequence.

We must begin with an unconditional attitude of humility. Without a guaranteed outcome.

How is that possible? By believing God is at the epicenter of our story—not us. And that he will lift us up. When he’s ready.

In the waiting, we can start to doubt his goodness. Or question if he cares or even knows what’s going on? That’s why the second half of the verse provides these reassuring words: Let him have all your worries and cares, for he is always thinking about you and watching everything that concerns you.

So stay humble. And remember, he will lift you up. In his good time.
