Don’t Create Alone

The antidote to being an orphan and doing life “without God” is simple. It is to do life—all of life—“with God.” I’m convinced nothing is more important. That is why Mia’s final vial is labeled Together. (If you’re not sure who Mia is, start here.)

Staying with God infers intimacy but also dependence. We are not meant to do it on our own. We need God and others along the way. The rooftop gathering in Mia’s journey brings to life the sort of creative fellowship that I’ve long dreamed of being a part of. It’s a mythic version of a specific desire.

I envision a time in the future when I host “rooftop” events with a small group of people hungry to celebrate the Creator through their creativity and their Stories. A time to consecrate our creativity. A spiritual and literal feast for those who are committed to pursuing life, love, and creativity with God. A celebration of the rare ones. Perhaps I will see you there. I’m expectant as to how God will breathe life into that dream.

But even before that mythic dream becomes a reality, we must avoid isolation as creatives. Find a small group of like-minded kindred spirits. The goal is a fellowship where stories are shared. Fill the time with conversation, laughter, and tears from those who are passionate about pursuing God and others through their calling.

You need a group like that and they need you. Because there’s more to your Story than you and God. There’s also you and others.

This daily message in a bottle is a real-life version of the four vials featured in The Story of With, providing encouragement to pursue our creativity with God.
