ABC’s of Creativity: Birth

Throughout May, I’ll be sharing three ideas per reading on a specific aspect of our creativity. I call it the ABC’s of Creativity because I focus on topics that begin with an A, B, or C. If this leaves you hungry for more, my book Waves of Creativity provides an “A to Z” gathering of ideas on creating with God.

Three thoughts on Birth…

1
You can’t rush creativity. When an idea stirs within, it’s amazing. But the process of bringing it to life takes time. The art will let you know when it is ready to be born. Deadlines and formulas may lead to a faster finish. But fast isn’t the same as a fully realized idea.

2
Giving birth to a new idea is beautiful, messy, and painful. The goal is creation, not comfort.

3
Our creativity reveals more about us than we think. What we give birth to includes both our strengths and blind spots. We can’t create art that surpasses our thoughts or imagination. Where we are faking it, our art will be less true. Where we haven’t gone, our creations can’t go.
