Your Truer Calling

When you think back on your Story, what have you always been drawn to? I’m not asking what others say you’re good at. We can be good at doing things that we have little interest in. I’m talking about activities that cause you to lose track of time when you enter into them. What would it look like to experience that joy again, in a fresh new way?

Perhaps you are closer to discovering your truer calling than you think.

I know an eye surgeon. He restores sight. That’s his profession and he’s good at it. But one day he realized if money wasn’t an issue, he’d write stories. That felt like such a disconnect from the trajectory of his career. I pointed out that there was actually a clear link between the two. His passion was to help people see. That was his true calling. But his deeper love was writing stories. Rather than a detour from what he’d been doing, God was inviting him to help people see in an entirely new way—through story. That is his truer calling.

I encourage you to ask God to give you a glimpse of your truer calling. This can feel risky, but it’s far riskier to stay stuck in the status quo. You don’t need an eye surgeon to help you see that.
