Why Your Plans Fail

Ever wonder why your plans fail—especially after investing so much thought and time in them?

Well, there are several possibilities.

For starters, you have an enemy who is out to steal, kill, and destroy (John 10:10). He opposes all that you do with God. Which is why James offers this advice: “Give yourselves humbly to God. Resist the devil and he will flee from you.” (James 4:7 TLB)

Another reason your plans derail is because we operate in a fallen world filled with broken people and broken promises. That’s been the case since Adam and Eve traded Eden for Ecclesiastes. They chose to believe in something more than God…and we continue that family tradition.

But the most likely reason your plans will fail is because they were your plans rather than God’s plans. A friend recently reminded me of this truth as he shared this verse with me: You can make many plans, but the Lord’s purpose will prevail. (Proverbs 19:21 NLT)

The remedy for failing plans? Slow down and ask God how to proceed. Then align with his purpose rather than announcing your plans. That one shift changes everything.
