What To Do Next

How do you decide which project to pursue next?

The world offers all kinds of answers. Choose what you're most passionate about. Base it on market research. Stay on brand.

It all sounds wise. Except for one thing. It leaves God out of the process.

That’s why the best and truest answer is this. When deciding what to do next, ask God. Don’t base it on what’s worked in the past. Or your own gut feeling. Ask God. Listen. And then have the passion and courage to follow as he leads.

Any other option requires you to try and make it happen in your own wit and grit. To guess what the world wants and serve it up in your own strength. That leads to formulaic creativity that produces forgettable results. It also leads to striving and stress.

Instead, choose the road less traveled. If you want to create something with an eternal spark beyond your wildest imagination (Jeremiah 33:3), the way forward is actually quite simple.

Ask God. Not just about what to do next…but when to do it. Invite a few others into the process who are willing to listen to the voice of God rather than simply offer their own opinion. Once you have God’s answer, you’re ready to move forward—at his pace and with him every step of the way.
