The Trumpet Child

One of my favorite sensory aspects of this season is the music.

I love almost all Christmas songs. Though the lyrics of I Saw Three Ships still baffles me. Why exactly are “Our Savior Christ and His Lady” sailing to Bethlehem on Christmas day? On the other hand, I do understand what Santa Baby means…and wish I didn’t.

Today, I come bearing the gift of a song you may not be familiar with. The Trumpet Child, by Over the Rhine, conveys the essence of this season so creatively. Here’s a sample of the lyrics…

"The trumpet child will blow his horn
Will blast the sky till it's reborn…

The trumpet child will lift a glass
His bride now leaning in at last
His final aim to fill with joy
The earth that man all but destroyed”

Do yourself a favor and add some wonder to your Christmas day by listening to this stunning song.
