Story 2 Baggage

The Eden Option reveals how we’re either living life in Story 1 or Story 2.

Story 1: the original, true story we were made for. A way of life with God at the epicenter.

Story 2: the default narrative we’re born into. A way of life with us at the center.

Thousands of readers have experienced tremendous breakthrough from choosing a Story 1 life. If you haven’t yet, I hope you’ll read the book and take the plunge.

But know this. After you leave Story 2, staying in Story 1 isn’t a one-and-done choice. We’ve lived most of our lives in Story 2. So we tend to bring a lot of our Story 2 baggage into Story 1. Perhaps we continue to doubt God’s goodness. Or still get offended too easily. Or try to control the events of our new Story 1 life like we did in Story 2.

It is a process. David’s emotions and language in the psalms often swing between Story 1 and Story 2. Even in Story 1, he still made some toxic Story 2 choices. The difference is once he chose Story 1, that was his forever true home. His North Star that he always came back to.

For those on the Story 1 journey, it’s good to ask God to reveal any Story 2 baggage you’re still holding on to. Then, repent and release it. Remember, even when you fall into Story 2, it is no longer your home.
