It Will Be Okay
There’s a saying I’ve posted in my office with this simple encouragement:
Everything will be okay in the end. If it’s not okay, it’s not the end.
I’m not sure who first said this, but I like it. The words remind me that I live in a Story, that God is the author, and that in spite of the turbulence of this particular page or chapter, it will ultimately end well.
Do the words sound overly optimistic to you? Too Pollyannaish? If so, I understand. But it is the prevailing worldview of Scripture. Listen to how Paul puts it:
That’s why I don’t think there’s any comparison between the present hard times and the coming good times. The created world itself can hardly wait for what’s coming next. Everything in creation is being more or less held back. God reins it in until both creation and all the creatures are ready and can be released at the same moment into the glorious times ahead. Meanwhile, the joyful anticipation deepens. (Romans 8:18 The Message)
