If You’re Stuck Creatively…
Chaos comes at our creativity in a unique way. I believe that’s because the enemy, as a consequence of his rebellion against God, forever lost his ability to create. Now, he is an agent of de-creation. And this often involves him throwing chaos at those who co-create with God.
I experienced this firsthand when I would sit down to write. Rather than sense God’s presence, a void of nothingness would appear. It was like my creativity was freefalling into a huge hole.
I’m not alone on that front. I coach a lot of individuals and groups (find out more at withallen.com/coaching). I hear firsthand how they experience similar spiritual attacks. When it hits, they’re tempted to give up or believe their creativity doesn’t matter. They feel hopelessly stuck.
It’s essential in these moments to realize what’s really going on—and how to navigate it with God. It’s the tension that’s been at play since the fall of Eden. Creativity stirs within us, ready to birth new hopes and dreams. And it’s immediately opposed. Chaos swirls around us, trying to end those hopes and dreams.
As you create with God, the enemy will try to sabotage it. Yet God always provides a way forward. We just have to focus on God more than the problem. And through him, resist the enemy. Doing so turns creative breakdowns into creative breakthroughs—in every area of our lives.
Submit yourselves, then, to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you. (James 4:7 NIV)
