Home Run

Home is more than where we were born.

As the author of Hebrews reminds us: For this world is not our permanent home; we are looking forward to a home yet to come. (Hebrews 13:14 NLT)

A home yet to come. Which means we are all currently on a homeward journey.

We long for a place where we are surrounded by kindred spirits who love, value, and pursue similar things as us…beginning with a shared desire for God to be at the center of our lives and creativity. A place where we never need to do more to feel less alone. It is our True North that drives everything.

These desires serve as a beacon that lights the path for us on our homeward journey. Along the way, we start so see our gifting with greater clarity. In our calling, we’d all like to experience a creative “homerun.” But how can run toward home if we aren’t sure where home is?

The good news is this. It matters less where we are than where we’re headed. Ultimately, our true home isn’t a building. It’s not a place that’s up to us to create. God is our home. As Scripture reminds us: Lord, through all the generations you have been our home! (Psalm 90:1 TLB)

And what can we anticipate when we run home? The same welcome the prodigal son experienced. The Father running to him: “So he returned home to his father. And while he was still a long way off, his father saw him coming. Filled with love and compassion, he ran to his son, embraced him, and kissed him.” (Luke 15:20 NLT)

Welcome home.
