Faking It Isn’t Making It
Our culture has fully embraced the mantra: "Fake it till you make it." But there are two big problems with that approach.
First, it starts in falseness. Pretending isn’t helpful on the journey of becoming real.
Second, it assumes an orphan mindset. It’s all up to you to “make it.”
As a son or daughter of God, you are never alone. God wants to do all of life together. Through his initiation process, you become more true…not less you.
The next time you’re in over your head, don’t fake it until you figure it out. Ask God for his interpretation, wisdom, and strength. Remember that God goes before you, with you, and beyond you (for more, read Try This Prayer). He makes the impossible possible.
A better mantra than “Fake it till you make it” is “Real it as God wills it.”
One starts in falseness. One begins in realness.
Throughout it all, start real and stay real.
Now may the God of peace…equip you with all you need for doing his will. May he produce in you, through the power of Jesus Christ, every good thing that is pleasing to him. (Hebrews 13:20-21 NLT)
