Design is Intentional

Every creation is designed with intention.

Our phones, for instance, are purposely designed to lure us into spending hours a day staring at the screen, scrolling through a never-ending stream of images and words. We’ll forget most of what we saw within a minute yet we can’t seem to break the pull of constant distraction and dopamine hits. We think we are the customer. But we are the product.

We are designed with intention as well. God created us for a life of beauty, love, and faith. We were made for a life of intimacy with God, not infatuation with a screen.

Now would be a good time to look up from our phones so we don’t miss the crossroads before us. Only one path offers restoration for our souls.

“Stand at the crossroads and look; ask for the ancient paths, ask where the good way is, and walk in it, and you will find rest for your souls.” (Jeremiah 6:16 NIV)

The ancient ways are never discovered by the distracted.

If we want our art to grow deeper, it starts with us. Fads fade fast but timeless creations echo through eternity. The thing is, timeless creations only happen from those who spend time with the timeless Creator.

We’ll find God, and rest, on the ancient paths…not our phone screens. That’s not by accident. It’s by design.
