Best of Both Worlds?

A man recently shared how much of his life had been wasted pursuing “the best of both worlds.” By that, he meant he loved God, but he also loved the pleasures of this world far too much. 

He lamented how much that approach had compromised his integrity…and his impact.  

The trajectory of your life will affect the trajectory of your creativity. Empty artists inevitably create empty art. It’s impossible for your art to have more life than you have. As your heart goes, there goes your art. As Proverbs 4:23 says, the heart is the wellspring of life. Everything you do flows—or doesn't—from it.  

The first step is to break the illusion that you can somehow fully follow God’s ways while continuing to dabble in the ways of this world. No one can have the best of both worlds because there aren’t two worlds. There is only God’s reality.  

The goal isn’t to become more like the world or look to it to satisfy your longings, but to fall more in love with God and his ways. Only from that place can you help change this broken, chaotic world for the better.
