Be God’s Fool
Be God’s fool.
The phrase immediately causes us to step back and look for any other option. We want to be viewed by the world as wise. None of us want to be seen as foolish.
The only problem is what the world calls smart, God calls stupid: Be God’s fool—that’s the path to true wisdom. What the world calls smart, God calls stupid. It’s written in Scripture, He exposes the hype of the hipsters. The Master sees through the smoke screens of the know-it-alls. (1 Corinthians 3:19 The Message)
The ways of God are not the ways of the world. Which means our choices will regularly run counter to culture—in small and massive ways. We wish there was a third option where we follow God's wisdom and the world applauds. There isn't. That's why the verse starts by saying "Don't fool yourself."
The way we don’t fool ourselves is by being God’s fool. As counterintuitive as it seems, that alone is the path to true wisdom. Yes it is risky. The world will always mock and oppose anyone who dares to do so.
Yet doing so is the path to true wisdom and intimacy with God.
So…how will you choose to be God’s fool today?
